Ok so i was looking on the internet and i found a cast list of pretty much everyone in the play, their vocal part, and what type of role they were, (lead, supporting, cameo etc.). however there were a lot of cameo type roles and no way to judge how big one part was compared to the other (how many lines, scene's they are in etc.) so i was wondering of someone could break down the cast of FOTR in a style like this from largest role to the smallest? or a line count or something that would be used to see what parts were bigger than others. Thanks in advance!

If the source you found was stageagent.com, I would keep looking. They are grossly unreliable, and if you try to help them by answering their request for any corrections or additional information, they will either blow you off or argue with you about it. There is actually a thread around here somewhere where a representative from stageagent challenged me about some corrections I submitted and proceeded to bicker about it with me even though I had the licensed version of the scores, straight from MTI and R&H, open on my lap.

Tevye is the one lead. Golde comes after him in terms of size. The following are all about equal: Tzietel, Motel, Hodel, Perchik, Chava. The following are also about equal: Fyedka, the Constable, Lazar Wolf, Mendel, Mordcha, Avram, Yente, Rabbi. Fruma Sarah and Grandma Tzietel are featured in one song, but are EXCELLENT bit parts. The Fiddler never speaks, but is onstage quite a lot. Everyone else is essentially chorus, though some roles might have a couple of lines.

It's very much an ensemble show, though. To try breaking it down by line count would be futile. Tevye is the lead, his family and friends are his supporting cast, and the rest of the village is onstage in most scenes as an ensemble.

That is exactly the place that I found the list... so thank you very much for the heads up! I would enjoy not getting into an argument haha. Also, thank you for your break up of the parts it was a lot easier to understand actually... and now we have our scripts and music so I have a visual to look at!
