 Suggestions?
Hi y'all,
I'm trying out for a youth production of Fiddler this summer, at a company where you are supposed to try out for specific roles. The age range is 13-18. I am 17, 5'9", and apparently look somewhat older than my years. I'm a first soprano with range (basically E or F3 to F6, strongest between Ab3 and D6). I can act a variety of roles and my dancing is barely passable.
Do I try out for Hodel or Golde? Hodel has been one of my dream roles since I was a tiny child, and I think I could act and sing the part well. In a youth production, though, would my somewhat "advanced" age and appearance make it more feasible for me to try for Golde?
Thanks!
Love,
Cosette

I'd go for Golde. Appearing older will be an advantage. Not to mention every girl goes out for one of the daughters. If I had a dollar for every girl I've heard that sang "Far From the Home I Love" at an audition... ](./images/smilies/eusa_wall.gif) The competition is sure to be less-stiff for Golde than for any of the daughters. Plus, Golde is a better role than any of them anyway.

I'd go with Golde, too. It's more likely you would get the role than one of the daughters, considering you will be one of the oldest in the cast. Golde's a great character.

how did it end up going? you were probably too tall for hodel anyway, unless tzeitel was 5'11 or something or your directer decided not to do height order.
