 Evita at the Stratford Festival
Evita is to be the first Lloyd Webber show put on by this prolific theatre festival in Canada.
Starring as Eva will be Chillina Kennedy, who was absolutely heart-breaking as Maria in last season's production of West Side Story. Juan Peron will be played by Juan Chioran, and the guy who's playing Che is apparently under some sort of witness protection program, because they haven't released the casting for that role yet!

They've released the casting for Che! Some (admittedly adorable) guy named Josh Young who will also appear as Paul in Kiss Me Kate. Way to go Stratford- Anticlimactic secret casting for the win!
And it looks like I'm going to see this show in July, if all goes according to plan!

I saw that a couple days ago...all that cloak and dagger for some guy making his Stratford debut? I do agree that he's cute...but not as cute as Paul Nolan or Evan Builing XD
hopefully I'll see you at Startford then!

I wish I could go see this...but getting there is out of the question...mainly to see Josh Young as Che. I saw him as Marius in the 2008 production of Les Miserables in Philadelphia and he's got a gorgeous voice.

He was Marius? That's cool. I'm glad he's got the pipes for this (though Stratford doesn't usually cast on account of cuteness).
Too bad about you living too far away though. This is why they should make their cinemacasts (whatever it is that you call it when a theatre streams their shows live at cinemas) more of a regular and widespread thing. Grr.
Edit- Has anyone else noticed the relaxing elevator music that comes on when you go to the Festival's homepage?

Hmmm...never had any music when I went on...
And wasn't the 2008 Phillie production the one with Hugh Panaro as Valjean? I'd go to Evita just to hunt him down and ask him about his time with Hugh
But a good Marius definitely boosts his appeal...you know, last year at the Community theatre I work at, one of the groups put on Evita and their Che was astounding. I'd seen him doing the Engineer in Miss Saigon the year before and knew he'd be good, but his Che blew me away! I think he could probably go professional if he wanted to. As it stands, he has a vocal studio and works as a vocal teacher when not doing community theatre.
Anyway, enough of my blabber and shameless promotion XD
I think if Evita does as well as West Side Story did last year, it stands a good chance in competing for the filming with Tempest which is probably The Big One because Christopher Plummer is in it. As it sands though, my money is still on them filming Tempest, as much as I'd prefer it to be Evita or even Kiss Me Kate if it's good enough...

That's horrible! -doesn't admit that she's going to see Brent Carver for the sole reason of getting her album of Parade signed as well as asking him what it was like to make out with Anthony Crivello and Chita Rivera in the same show bad emma bad bad bad-
EDIT- Did they film anything this year, out of curiosity?

All of a sudden I want to go see Brent Carver for the same reasons XD (seriously, he got to make out with Anthony Crivello?! Lucky bastard XD)
I think they did choose to film a show this year, but I don't know what...I mean it worked REALLY well with Ceasar and Cleopatra, and God knows they could use the money. It was lucky that last year worked out so well...anyway, shouldn't we be in the other forum concocting a nefarious scheme to get Anthony Camolino and Des McAnuff to put on Elisabeth sometime in the near future?

He was one of the sappiest Mariuses I've ever seen (I saw him on tour in 2004), but yes, he has a great voice.

Well...now I am very excited for his Che. A fantastic voice is always good...now we just have to hope that he can act the part okay.

I have to say, I haven't yet seen a Marius who wasn't sappy... Perhaps they should have kept the foaming-at-the-mouth Bonapartist part of him for the show. That would have been fun.
But I certainly hope he can act the part too! It would be so weird to have a sappy Che!
And, as I wasn't even born when Kiss of the Spider Woman came out, I'm unsure as to whether they actually made out or someone artfully faded the stage to black. Still...
