Best English-language cast recording / soundtrack?
You know the routine. If interested, please mention reason/s for your choice, or any other worthwhile information re comparative completeness, acting, voice quality, orchestrations, etc.

OIBC LuPone,Patinkin and Gunton are the premiere portrayers of the roles hands down.
the tour cast cd with Florence lacey is also quite good.
London is terrible. elaine paige is horrible.

I've heard some of Elaine Paige from the OLC. She had improved much by 1981.

OBC, hands down. I'm not crazy about the OCR - I don't like the orchestrations, some of the lyrics are cringeworthy, and Colm Wilkinson is annoying at times. OLC isn't really worth comment, and I'm not familiar with any of the others, unfortunately.

Paige never improved..she cant act and her voice is always nasal and screechy. every role she ever played others played better...
Florence in Chess..Judy Kuhn
Evita..Lupone
Norma Desmond...Glenn Close and Betty Buckley
Reno Sweeney..Lupone and Merman
Gisabela..Betty buckley

Betty Buckly is the worst Grizabella of any recording I've got. How much have you heard of Elaine Paige.

I prefer the London Revival CD, because of the amazing actors! I've never liked "Don't cry for me argentina", on the Revival it's amazing! I love "High Flying, Adored", "What a Circus", and "Goodnight and Thank You". But if I'm listening to a CD to enjoy the story, I choose the Concept Album or the Original Broadway Cast Recording. The only time I listen to the Movie Soundtrack is when I get in the mood for Antonio Banderas' "The Lady's got Potential". I haven't bought the London CD or the 25th Anniversary CD, and after listening to those I have now, I won't bother to buy them.

Lupone and Mandy Patinkin were the best at their respective roles. They saved the OBC recording.

I chose "other" cause I can't choose between 2 recordings.
I love the concept album's crazy orchestrations, but prefer the OBC vocals all the way. The OBC recording's orchestrations are poorly mixed.

There is no Evita OBC. It's called The Los Angeles Premeire recording. It's the recording I listen to the most. I must admit, the mix is very poor.
I used to loathe the OCR, but the record is really growing on me. Covington is amazing and Wilkinson steals the recording from everyone else.
The OLC is nothing to write home about. Tempi are way too slow and the vocals seem passionless. Plus, the guy who played Peron ended up hating the show and said it was the worst thing he'd ever been a apart of in his carreer.
I love the film's orchestrations. Very lush. Would have liked more rock, though. That being said, a magnificent recording on all parts. Madonna mixed the album well.
I haven't heard the revival recording yet. It's on the Christmas list.
Andy.
