 The Car Scenes?
Hi there. I'm directing Crazy For You and casting in June 09. Can any of you who might have been in a smaller production help me? The theater we are going to use has a fairly small back stage and side stage. Can you suggest what I might do about the car scenes? Coz if I can't get the car backstage I won't be able to use it on stage.
Thanks I look forward to your speedy replies because if we can't use a car I'll have to think of an alternate show to do. Unless you can suggest a way around it by doing something else.

Well, there are a million ways to do it without the car. The girls come out of a billboard. Out of a phone booth. From behind a random wall. It's not THAT critical.
You can do a car cutout, which is cheesy, but at least it stores flat.
Unfortunately, even the smallest stage car (golf cart based) is still pretty big if you're in a small theater.

I'm in a production of it right now (show opes March 13th) and we cut out the car scenes due to small theater/backstage space as well. We used the phonebooth idea by butting it up to one of the wings to have the girls enter. Then any line that had to do with a "car" we just cut out or adjusted.
Hope this helps

For the production I was involved in we built a car facade on a rolling wagon with a platform to dance on at the roof and hood levels. It was just large enough to hide all the chorus girls behind. It turned out like this:
