Hence my comment about Pushing Daisies. The mainstream public only knows him as Alfredo on PD.

Company could make a brilliant film if done properly.
You know who I think would be the perfect director? Adam Shankman, the guy who did Hairspray. To quote Sondheim, "Company is about middle class people with middle class problems." Adam's got that under his thumb. I could totally see "You Could Drive a Person Crazy" panelled over a series of miniclips, like in "I Can Hear the Bells"

I disagree.
I think he's too bubbly, going off the style in Hairspray, to do a show with rather dark tones like Company.

David Lynch. He has a musical inclination... just look at the use of music and singing, switching from "real" music to music integrated into the scene and plot. "Twin Peaks" is a brilliant example of why Lynch should direct Company.
That and the fact that all the characters are slightly skewed in a Lynchian way.

By now, Krakowski is starting to approach Joanne age.
What about TV comedienne Kirstin Wiig as Amy? She'd be very good at it, especially the patter section in her song.

I've always thought someone like John C. Reilly would be a good Harry. For a while, I had considered Madonna as Sarah, but I'm not sure if she'd be the right age or type anymore. Maybe Jesse Tyler Ferguson as Peter.
Also, what will the tone of the movie be? Straight-up drama? Black comedy? Something in between? It draws on the very modern "awkward humor" that "smart-coms" like The Office and 30 Rock have been using to great acclaim, so actors with some musical ability, comic chops and ability to play drama will be needed as well.

There are a few grey areas that the film would have to deal with... the exact time period, for one, has been "somewhere in the past forty years" since the '95 revival created its fuzzy time period. Also, would the entire show still take place in the few small rooms, or would it expand outward? Bobby is the character we know the least about. Is he still going to remain a generic "everyman" with no clear definition of who he is to the outside world? And how are the surrealistic, fourth-wall breaking musical numbers going to work?
Here's my concept for the cast list.
Bobby: Hugh Jackman/Lee Pace (a lot of people say Neil is too effeminate for the part, but I think it fits his usual type just fine)
Harry: Will Ferrell/John C. Reilly
Sarah: Tina Fey
Susan: Kristin Chenowith
Peter: Neil Patrick Harris
David: Hugh Laurie
Jenny: Anna Friel
Joanne: Jane Krakowski
Larry: Kyle McLachlan
April: Amy Adams
Marta: Vanessa Carlton
Kathy: Kristin Bell
