 Tim Curry...
...would have made a good Emcee back in the day.
Maybe he could still do it. It'd be so tight. I was just thinking of this because I saw this on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPopeuMUtS4
And I thought, "Wow! It reminds me of 'I Don't Care Much'"
And then I thought, "Tim Curry would make a good Emcee".
I talk to myself.

well, of course, nowadways he's too heavy - so far as i remember - and probly too old. but, maybe not too old. his voice is still fantastic and we know he can still act with the best of 'em.
so, to answer your question - i dont know.
...i talk to myself, too!

Well, that's why i said back in the day. Meaning the 70's/80's.
But I don't think being to heavy has anthing to do with it. Look at this actor as the emcee: (The one in the middle)
P.S. This is NOT amateur theatre. That picture is from a professional production at the Startford Shakespeare Festival in Canada (ask Mizzie about it).

ah, i missed the 'back in the day' part. i know like amateur theatre will cast a chubby emcee, but it's better when they're sexy - like in the revival.

I think a notably older Emcee would give it a different but viable interpretation- whereas Alan's Emcee and most others are played as hedonistic participants in whatever is going on at the time, I can only imagine an older Emcee being much more of the Greek Chorus, and almost a pimp-like character, rather than the ambisextrous Donmar interpretation.

I think an older Tim Curry would make a great Emcee, even today possibly. True, it wouldn't be the same, but having him be older and a little heavier could also be funnier. If he could still make a believable Emcee (which I'm sure he could) I don't see why not.

Yes! Like a... "sugar daddy!" Good call!
And of course Tim Curry would be perfect. He just has that mysterious weirdness quality to the way he looks. And he could act the stars off the sky.

IN someways I really do not like the revival verion of cabaret and someways I do. I really dont think the MC has to be sexy in anyway. I mean what about alan cumming is really sexy? Prety much everyone after him had that sexy look. NPH, john stamos, Adam Pascal...etc.
I personnally think the "sex" takes away from alot of the story of cabaret. Which the revival clearly puts a lot of emphasis on.
But I think Curry would be a great emcee even now. granted I havnt seen him recently but I think it could work.

Yeah. The sexualization of the MC is not a vital part of the show, but it's become ingrained in the public consciousness.

MC doesn't have to be any specific age. He's a fluid character and can be interpreted fluidly.

I kind of like the idea of Curry as the Emcee. It'd be neat to see a slightly different take on the character. Maybe he could play it more like Joel Grey than Alan Cumming.

I think Curry would be awesome. The original idea for the Emcee was that the heavy make up was to hide/ accentuate how old he was......
The sexiness is not part of the original concept, and unneccesary to the role.
