 Stepsisters
i'm going to be in a production of Cinderella and i was wondering if the part of a stepsister is a somewhat large one or not. and will i be able to manage it with a major school year too? thanks soo much!

The stepsisters, Joy and Portia are great roles. They sing in The Stepsisters' Lament, Lovely Night, and When You're Driving Though the Moonlight in addition to the full chorus numbers: The Prince is Giving a Ball, the song in the middle of the waltz (Ten Minutes Ago Reprise), and the Finale.
They are both great parts but you should be able to handle either of them while in school.

I think the stepsisters carry the show. One is supposed to be goofy and one is supposed to be mean. You can do so much with either one though. but yeah...i think they are the two best roles in the show!

 RnH's ***CINDERELLA***
The stepsisters don't carry the show - they're only in about a third of it. But they are great fun, although I think Portia is a better role than Joy. The way Portia is written just sits better in performance.
You need a good Cinderella to carry the show. After all, it isn't called "Rodgers and Hammerstein's Stepsisters' Lament".

 Re: RnH's ***CINDERELLA***
Yes that's true but in the two productions of cinderella i've seen the stepsisters seemed to steal the show. in one of them cinderella was great but the other cinderella was terrible. but it might just be that i like the sillier characters. Who knows?! but i would agree that portia is the better of the two.

Our stepsisters stole the show too, but it wasn't that hard for them-our Cinderella and Prince weren't that great to begin with.

They're pretty big roles. They have about 75 lines (I think?) and sing 3 songs. The stepsisters are comedy relief and can very easily steal the show from the rest of the cast.
