 Australian Production Casting Problems So it seems that the Australian production of Mary Poppins is struggling to find a Mary:
Maybe they should launch a reality TV series called Practically Perfect. They already used a TV show to cast the role in Holland.

So, they STILL haven't found a Mary and it's nearly two months since the last post! It sounds like they've narrowed it down quite a bit though. Amazing how many people auditioned and they're still having trouble. I wanted to audition, but I'm too young  People thought that Marina Prior was going to play Mary but she's not, she's playing Winifred Banks.

With all the talented Aussie actresses, how can they still be looking?? Anne Wood, Ana Marina, Rhonda Burchmore? Though I also assumed Marina Prior would play Mary Poppins herself, and not Winifred Banks.

It is strange. I have seen so many wonderful Australian actresses in so many shows, and still I haven't heard that anyone has the part yet. I have tickets so I really want to know who's in it! I don't think it will be Rhonda Burchmore though, as she's currently in The Drowsy Chaperone.

The last rumour I heard was that Kate Miller Heidke had been offered the role, but that is just a rumour.
One of my friends audition for Mary, but obviously didn't get it.

These are the cast members announced so far:
Matt Lee will play chimney sweep Bert.
Philip Quast and Marina Prior as Mr and Mrs Banks
Debra Byrne as the Bird Woman
Judi Connelli as the vicious nanny Miss Andrew
Sally-Anne Upton as the housekeeper
Christopher Rickerby as houseboy Robertson Ay.
The Banks children audition have just about finished (if they haven't already).

Verity Hunt-Ballard has been confirmed as Mary Poppins.
She is currently playing Frankie Valli's girlfriend in Jersey Boys.
Hunt-Ballard, who has also worked in productions of The Rocky Horror Show, Oklahoma and South Pacific, as well as dancing on the TV show Countdown, was only cast on the weekend, after flying to London to audition in person for producer Cameron Mackintosh and director Richard Eyre.

They even auditioned internationally and they got someone currently performing in Melbourne!
